Yoga Equipment
Preparation for practicing yoga is minimal. Diet should be watched but mental preparation is farm more important. When it comes to yoga equipment, there are a few things to keep in mind. These items are not mandatory, but are recommended to increase the level of comfort and efficiency.
There is no rule regarding the type of clothes to wear while practicing Yoga. However, practice has demonstrated that comfortable, loose, breathable clothes are the most practical for practicing yoga. Sweat outfits, shorts, pajamas and t-shirts all work well. For certain exercises that require the head to come below the knees a tight t shirt may work best.
Shoes are generally not worn during yoga. Generally shoes are left near the entrance. To prevent the feet from becoming cold, light cotton socks can be worn.
Many yoga practitioners choose to use a yoga mat. These mats are used for various reasons, such as, marking personal space, comfort, and so the practitioner does not slide on a slippery floor. Personal space is important during a yoga routine because it helps each practitioner reach the state of harmony between mind and body within the space allocated to him. This is a space that the practitioner controls and dominates. Those that sweat can easily get the floor wet and slippery without a mat causing a loss of stability and concentration. Those that are learning yoga can have serious problems with discomfort from the hard floor and should deeply consider purchasing a mat. Many studios offer mats for rent for a few dollars. However, most practitioners prefer to purchase their own mats from a specialized store.
Blankets are also commonly found in yoga studios. A blanket can be used to prop the body while performing exercises in uncomfortable positions, or to cover the body during the end relaxation exercise to prevent the body from becoming chilled.
Blocks and straps can also be used to improve efficiency and comfort while performing the yoga exercises.
