Plow Pose

Performing the Plow requires the use of the flexibility and muscle tone developed with other yoga poses, such as the shoulder stand. Practice will make it possible to go in and out of the pose with ease and grace.
Starting from the shoulder stand position; slowly lower the feet to the floor above the head. The legs should remain extended at all times and the spinal column should be perpendicular to the floor. Once the toes touch the floor continue to raise the lower back and pelvis toward the ceiling.
The neck and head position are important. The neck should be relaxed and the muscles soft. The chin should be pressed away from the chest to help achieve this. Press the arms down on the floor for support to hold the pose. The hands should keep pressing the lower back area towards the ceiling.
A variation can be made to this pose by releasing the lower back and moving the hands opposite the legs on the floor. Press the palms and lower arm to the floor while attempting to have the thighs go as high towards the ceiling as possible.
Exit the pose by bringing the arms to the lower back region and roll out of the pose while exhaling.
