Eye Exercises
Many Yoga practitioners place great emphasis on the eye exercises. By exercising the eye muscles it is possible to prevent problems caused by loss of tone and vitality of these muscles, which can appear when a person reaches maturity. Eye tension reduces the ability of the eye to focus properly and can cause great discomfort due to the fact the eyes are connected to the brain via the optic nerve.
Eye exercises are recommended to prevent eye illnesses, to improve eyesight and to cure minor dysfunctions of the eye. To proceed with eye exercises it is important to be comfortably seated, with the eyes wide open. The back should be in a straight position and the hands on the knees. The body should relaxed and the head straight. It is important that the body remain in the same position at all times and that no part of the body move except the eyes.
Choose two focal points: one on the wall and the other on the floor and repeatedly raise and lower the eyes to the points. This move is the warm up for the exercises. When the eyes are properly warmed continue by looking up as far as possible and the down as far as possible without moving the head. Repeat this move five times and then blink quickly to allow the eyes to relax.
Repeat the exercise using reference points on the right and left at eye level. Once this is done 5 times allow the eye muscles rest.
